I find it weird and close-minded honestly when people say they can't marry outside their religion or tribe/ethnicity, but there might actually be some sense to it.

I'm here trying to figure out how not to ruin my unborn offsprings life by giving him/her 2 middle names. Here's the format I'm at now:

MuslimName - YorubaName - ItsekiriName - LastName

And you know our Nigerian names be long as hell! Or should I just give in, since in tradition, the husbands family names the child. But then, there's no link to having a Delta heritage.

Sigh...

ps - Totally unrelated; SZA's album CTRL is currently giving me life. You should check it out.
I was reading a blog the other day which talked about the 3 C's in relationships.

Commitment. Compromise. Communication.

In the same week I was chatting with a couple friends about relationships in general and based on the stories, there was a general consensus; women tend to compromise more in relationships, no? If you have any alternate opinions do share.

That aside, do you find yourself compromising more in order to communicate less?

Food for thought.

I refer to 50 Shades of Grey, but not the movie per say. The title in itself explains the different spectrums between black and white. Which brings me to my personality - it really is either black or white. Okay okay, with some exceptions. During friendly arguments, I do tend to consider other people's opinions - very well if I might add, but we'll leave that for another day.

Back to being not-grey. I'll give you some examples:

I hardly buy clothes, because if I have a certain look or item in mind and I can't find to spec what I'm looking for, I'd rather re-rock an old outfit or sit out an event.

Or with friends, if I really can't tolerate you anymore, then we just seamlessly stop speaking. I'm not really good at faking smiles and stuff.

Which brings me to today, planning a wedding involving a panel of decision makers. Some things I like and agree with, others not so much. And that's the hard part. "Just don't stress yourself" they say, but I ask, how do I be grey?

Believe it or not, I'm an emotional person, which in turn affects my mood, which spirals into logging off from the world when I'm in a not-so-great one (more often these days), because, I find it hard to express myself. Except on here. I really should have come back to doing this a long time ago.

Guess one good thing's coming out of this.

Wish me luck.
I haven't forgotten about this blog. I just haven't blogged for one or more reasons or should I say excuses. I'm here now though.

Later on this year in the 4th quarter, I'll finally be making a life choice that has been 2 years coming. Yes, I'm moving home. Honestly, I'm not too sure how I feel asides being scared as s#!t. Those who know me, would say I don't like change. That statement would be false, what is true is I don't like uncertainty. And this move is the epitome of that for many many reasons. For now, I'm making a list of to-dos for the next month in preparation. Many speculate on why I'm going now, but ill say for some reason, going this time just feels right. I'll explain when the time gets closer.

Maybe i'll take a year off to find myself. Is that too late at 27 though?

Anyways, all in all it has been a weird year so far. Being July, and luckily I was on a flight for more than 2 hours (more like 12hours) I got ample time to do what I love to do best on a plane, reflect. Great things have happened, good things have happened, disappointing things have happened, opportunities have been lost, old friends have become strangers, new friends have come into my life, and the list goes on and on. I like being older though, not so much age wise, more like growing from experience. On the good side, my BS tolerance has dramatically reduced (my siblings actually say I'm too nice/naive its stupid) now though, on the bad part means once you do wrong, you're gone.

People are strange.

Sometimes I just want to curl up in a corner away from it all. Okay I really need to stop saying that. People are beginning to take my running away thing to seriously. If I do though, i'll most likely be in Asia. I feel like my money would go pretty far there, no?

Solo trip to Bali maybe? Hmm.

Nothing cheers me up like music does so to bring some light/positivity to this post, here's a track a totally feeling now.
I recently got into this 'soft electronic' genre of music (totally made that up by the way) when I stumbled on Lucy Stone by KAASI. And in my true form of overdoing something I like, I kinda acquired every song of hers/his I could find.

I find such tracks soothing and make for a good listen at work. I mean, you can't be listening to Shoki while coding and expect to not want to bust a move or two. Anyways, found this track today and gotta say its growing on me fast.
We're 25 days into the new year, so instead of wishes, I hope the year is going as planned. I can already tell this year would be different. For one, I didn't reflect on the past year like I normally do. Because of that, I sure as hell wasn't ready for this year itself. Prime example, January is almost over and I don't really have a game plan for the year. Granted I hardly ever stick to it, but its a nice to have anyways.

I finally got around to listing my goals / resolutions about a week or two ago. I kept it really short and simple this year. Nothing too ambitious that would make me feel like a loser at the years end. However, it does list 2 major life changes - learning to swim and another which scares the life outta me, but at the same time feels like the right thing to do this year. We'll see how the next few months go.

I need to travel ! My travel plans this year compared to previous years is lacking tremendously. Blame it on major life change #2 that requires a lotta money put towards it or my newly acquired eating out for almost every meal habit. But yeah, lets just say travel would be at a minimum this year - unless I win the lottery of course.

I've also become l-a-z-y. Okay not really, but I'm definitely not as mobile and active as I was 2 months ago and Lord knows, all this puff-puff and palm oil stew need to be banished from my body!

Being the little OCD-er that I am. My new year starts on Feb 1st. Luckily it so happens to be a Sunday too. I love it when a new month starts on a Sunday.

That aside, I'm not sure how my bills have increased now that I'm living alone :s
Here's one of my favorite tracks of the moment.
An apt title this one, for more reasons than one.

How Far? Considering its been ages since I last blogged. It's always on my mind to, infact I have loads of things to share, but the way my 24 hours have been moving in light speed these days, I can't explain. I mean its already October !!!

I'll say I'm back-ish, but I've said that before and failed. So just keep being the loyal readers that you are - subscribe so you get notified when I do post or since I probably know all of you individually, I'll harass you that something's up.

How Far - is the title of the song from Falz. The past few months I've been debating moving back to Lagos. Scratch that, the past few years it seems, but something always comes up. There should be a quote somewhere that says "the more educated you are the harder it is to live" because I sure do calculate every scenario I can think of and moving back doesn't quite fit or cut it - professionally and financially at least. Personally, ill probably be happier than the last 10 years I've spent in the states.

Anyways, back to one of the reasons moving back is tough. Maybe the only reason - the state of my beloved country Nigeria. I feel like every time I come on here its to rant about Naij, so I won't. Lets just say I'm one more who is rapidly losing hope of it becoming better. This one time I wish I'm wrong. Check out the stills and listen to the words behind the song.

"They say we can write the future, but they no give us pen"
I have a track record with this blog. Most things I post on here I eventually get, good luck charm maybe. Anyways, I watched an episode of KUWTK last 2 weeks and I have been searching for the pair of shades Scott wore. I eventually found them!

I have a bad habit with watches, scarves and sunglasses and usually buy one of each every year - in the last 3 years at least. Anywho's I made a bet with a friend of mine not to buy any of those items this year. I can't remember what happens if I do, but just to prove him wrong anyways, I won't.

Back to the pair of shaes.. They are Garret Leight and they look a lil something like this. Another reason I'm blogging about it is so I can have a reference when I wanna get them :D
I've come across 2 accounts on Instagram recently that's got me thinking about turning the big 3-0. One is a guy who has a list of 25 things to do before he turns, well 25. And another was 30 days to celebrate her 30th. I'm still a good 4+ years away from hitting 30 but I love both ideas. From now, till then i'm going to build my list of 30 things to do in the month of September which happens to be a perfect 30 day month.

That year also happens to be my little sisters' 25th and 21st birthday years as well. Can you say major turn up!!!
It's 11-ish AM on a Sunday and just sitting here with the sisters. Not sure how this came up, but we just started talking about 'life' and its lessons... Oh, now I remember, my sister said she doesn't like overly optimistic people {guilty}. Anyways, here are a few rules we suggest everyone should live by.

Life is so funny; you just have to have a sense of humor

Your best friends are not always the ones you talk to everyday

You'll go through life everyday disappointed if you think everyone has the same heart as you

Just because you do something for someone doesn't mean they'll do the same for you

Don't do things for people because of who they are, do it because can and want to... and for God

Everyone is out here saving themselves

It's okay to be miserable for a while, just don't pack and move there

Stop comparing your true life to the one's people choose to show you

God is never late, we're just impatient

Disclaimer: These are not our original quotes. It's a mix of things we've seen, heard, and learnt from.
This won't be the first world cup I'm watching, but this has to be by far the most entertaining. Apparently I missed the best game so far between Germany v Ghana. But anyways, that's what highlights are for.
Speaking of highlights, if you missed the USA v Portugal game last night Ronaldo had some crazy footwork. Can' find a better vid online, but this should do.
Before the games began, I chose Netherlands, England and Nigeria of course as my teams. Not so great choices asides from Netherlands. The African countries I gotta say have been somewhat disappointing. Lets see what my Super Eagles do on Wednesday before I say much more.

I hardly come across blog posts I find valuable, but a friend shared one with me this week. I want to share it with you guys as well, but more so the message that came with it.
I pray that neither of us will ever get caught up in the short-lived joy that material things bring, and that we cultivate the habit of appreciating the simple things in life that REALLY make us happy.
I just got back [well due to my procrastination, a few weeks now] from what I'd probably call the best vacay ever. A few others come close, but the uncertainty in this one where our plans changed day by day made it even more exciting. Who knew I was an adventurous one.

Anyways, I won't blog in detail like I used to do - probably cos I'm lazy, but if you do want details, call me. However, I'm about to do a quick infomercial for Greece.

Forget an unstable economy, I have to say Greece is one of the most romantic countries I've ever been to; Venice, Italy comes close. People also say Paris, France but I really don't get the hype to be honest. Maybe next time I visit I need to go with a plus-one.

Anyways, back to Greece -- the views were so ah-mazingly breathtaking I mean I even found myself using words like pretty and stunning which NEVER happens. Also, 4 girls together for 9 days - drama free was more than epic. I couldn't have asked for greater company / travel buddies.

I can't even pick a favorite of all the islands we visited. Athens, Crete, Santorini and Mykonos. One thing though, what happened in Greece must not find its way off anyone's phone, lol.

Gotta shoutout Sifis our cabby in Crete and a certain Konsta from Mykonos. Got over 500 pictures but this was by far my favorite.

ps - it looks better in HDR on my phone
I heard of Sam Smith last year when he featured on La La La by Naughty Boy and then again this year on Latch by Disclosure. Birthdays are a very significant. It happens once a year, it symbolizes getting older - sometimes wiser - and every other emotional attachment one wishes to tie to it.

That said, if you know you're the big birthday type I suggest you don't delete your DOB from social media sites in the name of "I want to see who will remember". And on the day, you might want to post up a picture on FB, twitter and instagram announcing your day.

I've had one too many people 'fight' with me for unintentionally forgetting their birthday. I mean, just recently someone didn't speak to me for 9 days because of this, lol.

Not to sound like the birthday grinch, but to cover myself, my new plan is to send out advance Happy Birthday greetings on January 1st. That counts right?

Oh and just incase you don't get a text on New Year's day, here's yours - Happy Birthday!
When I first moved to the states in 2004, thanks to the internet, I was an avid reader catching up on news that was happening in my country. Actually, even up to about 3 years ago, this was still the case. Blogs and social media were rapidly bubbling with information, platforms like ChannelsTV who offer live streaming and apps like TuneIn Radio which allows me to listen to Beat FM and the likes made information about Nigeria, readily available. But when every Sunday a bomb goes off in some state, meanwhile some government official is partying somewhere where gold-plated iPhones are handed out as party favors, I lost hope and consciously avoided the news.

A 19 year old me then on this same blog penned an article on what I think is The Problem With Nigeria . Sadly, a good 5 years later and nothing has changed. Before I go on a rant, unless you've been under a rock you should have heard of the 200+ girls that have gone missing for about 2 weeks now. While there isn't much we can personally do, please go sign the petitions. There's one at Change.org and another on the whitehouse site hopefully it can make a difference.

That provides the perfect segway into the reason for this post. It took TWO weeks. I re-iterate, TWO WEEKS for GEJ to realize that he has to address the nation on this matter. It took TWO weeks of individuals screaming, crying, protesting, petitioning and attention from international media outlets for something to be done. In those TWO weeks, those girls could be anywhere. If this were the USA, it would only be a matter of hours before the president got on TV addressing the nation. What have we heard from GEJ, nothing. There is an address and I believe a QA session today from "selected" journalists and "pre-selected" questions. I mean as a country we can't even provide the exact number of girls *sigh*.

I have so much to say about this man, but I'll tame my rage since freedom of speech is not so free in Nigeria. Take @ciaxon who on was live-tweeting from a scene with the SSS and Boko Haram who then "disappeared" but was freed almost 2 weeks later after an outcry and coverage from media houses such as BBC. We are from a country where our leaders are more concerned in jailing gay people than providing simple education for all. We are from a country where our leaders are more concerned in profiting from its citizens - we all know they own more than half of any oil related business in the country - than providing good healthcare for all. I keep saying if we had constant light and water these so called BH militants would be happy sitting at home watching TV. But when basic needs are unavailable, jobs do not exist, this is what happens!

I can go on and on, but I get so rilled up that my thoughts become incoherent so ill close up here. In my 25 years I have never seen or heard of this many protests as I have during our current leaders term. It can only mean one thing, Nigerians are getting tired. I used to say the only way Nigeria can become better is if the white man comes back. I mean, clearly we are incapable of leading ourselves. When we elect Zoologists into power, we shall be treated like animals don't you think? Some say we need to go back to military rule. I doubt that would make a difference since its still the same hands that would be fed. A revolution needs to happen, another civil war maybe, and I strongly believe we're not too far off from that.

It's easy for me to stay where I am and ignore all that's going on, but this is not home. One way or another we all have to help make it a better place. To be honest, I'm not so sure how I can do that, but till then I'll keep praying for a better Nigeria.

Just came across this article by Chimamanda Adichie that totally puts how I feel into words. The President I Want - check on it.

So I've come to realize I'm very lucky I didn't grow up being a girly girl and that I somewhat hate to shop. I usually have an idea of what I want to buy and when my searches lead to no find of my match I usually don't buy anything. That being said, here are the latest finds on my radar... Feel free to surprise me with any of these.
Yeah, I didn't know what to call this post. Anyways... you know you've made it when Jay-Z drops your name on a track. Forget him taking jabs at Drake - he also mentiones lady of the moment Lupita. I should do the right thing and post the lyric excerpts, but I won't y'all should listen to the song :)
Next up is award winning songwriter Stacy Barthe. Most if not all of you reading this would have absolutely no clue who she is, but you sing along to songs she's penned daily. Anyways, a clip of this song was on the show Being Mary Jane and I immediately guessed it was her. Stuff like that boosts my tiny ego, hehe. Here's War IV Love.
I seem to be finding a balance these days - as long as I can stay away from my extra comfy couch that drives absolutely no productivity. Anyways, this means I've found time to catch up with music a little everyday. Today's find comes from Justin Timberlake's 20/20 Experience 2 of 2.

The song's called Not a Bad Thing and on listening takes me back circa 2000 - 2002. Not to any memory in particular, but the rhythm and melodies sound like something I was bumping to around that time. That said... enjoy!
Okay I know the title sounds like one of those self-help books, but lets just say that's my March mantra. It's a little ways off from YOLO - I'd like to think there's more thought behind this - but it essentially is to live in the now.

Like many of you, I plan and plan and plan even more only for life to change in a split second. Current example, I've wanted a new car for the past 2 years, but never got it all in the name of moving back to Nigeria and not wanting to drive a 'flashy' car there. Well, 2 years later I'm sitting on the same couch I made that decision meaning I could have been one-hand swerving in a German engineered ride all this while.

Long and short is - no one knows what tomorrow holds. If you want something and it fits in the plans for now - go for it.

Musically, I've been more than slacking, but I did stumble across this new Jhene Aiko track that got me bringing out the Beats headphones for.

4 more days till the weekend!
Seriously if you're reading this, I'm grateful and surprised you still visit this blog. Either way, Eid Mubarak, Happy Labor Day, Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas and everything else I missed in between... but most of all Happy New Year.

This month has been eventful to say the least. I spent the first 5 days of the year sick. I looked slimmer afterwards so that's a plus. I spent 2 grueling weeks working in Florida and no the beach didn't make it any better. I spent 5 hours in traffic and still didn't make it home when the 2 inch "snow storm" hit Atlanta a few days ago. And to cap it all off, just the thought that this year would mark 10 years I've been living in the states somewhat depresses me.

Not much has changed though. I'm still struggling between work and working for myself. When do I take the leap, decisions, consequences. OMG I'm 25 and single while some family members keep singing wedding and babies into my ear, Serena didt win another Grand Slam title and most of all, there still aren't enough hours in the day.

Enough of my rant though. Here's to a great 2014 to you all. May the rest of your year be better than your January.

Here's a track I'm feeling right now - Special Someone - Sardokie Feat. Burna Boy

Haven't done a 'randoms' post in a while so thought I should...

First off. I think I have some sort of inattentiveness issue. My last two posts talks about a site I had all planned out. No seriously, I can show you the draft notes, layout wireframes and chat messages with potential contributors, but what have I done - nothing. In that space though I have picked up other new hobbies/habits. My sis says its good because I'm curious about things but I have quickly seen myself become a jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none. Could be good in some cases, but I cannot truly say I am great at one thing.

Funny, though this only happens to things I do for me. I'm pretty good at keeping to time/schedule when its for others. Anyways, I have challenged myself to picking only 2 things per year. No more trying to learn arabic, french, play the guitar, build a website, read for an exam, build 2 iPhone apps, start a business in Naij, start a non-profit and start a professional network in ATL. Yes, these are things I have attempted or thought about all this year and its only July. LOL!

I think ill just go with the exam for this year. Not like I have time for anything else really. Quarter life crisis they say.

Just watched the verdict on that Zimmerman trial and to be honest I am not surprised about how it turned out. I didn't follow the trial all too closely asides from Robin Meade in the mornings, but I pray both families have peace and leave the judgement to God.

Speaking of God, its the holy month of Ramadan. They say the older you get the closer you get to God and I kinda believe that. Been fasting, trying to be on good behavior as always *shines halo*

I'm not so big on birthdays, but this year I'm contemplating making my yearly trip to NY and seeing the US open game for my birthday. It's something on my bucket list so why not.

So I took everyone saying I looked good & skinny last year to heart and I haven't worked out consistently in 9 months and boy is it showing now. I guess no selfies in Jamaica next month :(

SUITS is back on Tuesday.

Last but not least, I saw Emeli Sande in concert last week which was super awesome. Asides her occasional awkward bouncing [and I thought I was a tomboy] I loved every bit of the show. She performed a new track titled 'Free' which after the Zimmerman case is apt at this point. Listen below.
...well those are ShowDemCamp's words not mine. Anyways, Thursday was the little sis' 20th birthday so we did dinner. Friday though, it was time to turn up! We got a VIP table and that's where it started..

What irked me the most were those individuals who then took a spot on the table without even being invited. To make it worse, brought their friends along, drank the alcohol on the table and even proceeded to order 'things' which randomly ended up on my bill. Lets just say we spent 90% of what I make a week in 3 hours. I aint mad though, it was for a good cause and the sis had mad fun with her friends.

But, I just started thinking of those people who do this VIP stuff every weekend. I mean the celebs we try to emulate half the time are paid to be in the club. And if you're at a Nigerian party anyways, the so called VIP is WAY more packed than the regular dance floor.

It probably won't be the last time I do such, but I believe its just like champagne - needed for only special occasions.
Yes, I have another website I'm starting and even I have to laugh at myself. Come to think of it I've had quite a number of start-ups to say the least. It all started with villageentertainment.com where I hosted a music player [yes well before the times of gidilounge] while I was saving up for an ipod. It came with an entertainment newsletter I sent out every week to subscribers.

Then there was daft designs where I did flyers and tees for organizations in schools. Then there was village ent [I re-branded, lol] where I threw house parties [cos I was too young to attend any] and kicked off my DJ career really. Then village ink which was the post-college site where I designed and sold urban tees with Nigerian influence.

There were a couple other hustler moves such as [my sis doesn't know this till she reads this I guess, but ...] occasionally renting her car while she was away in med school. lol! Then themuzikbox which was supposed to be a review site - that didn't pan out too well and now... viink

It's still in the works. I just installed wordpress about 30 mins ago. Still need a logo, theme and what not, but I think this might be the one. I'll keep y'all updated.
